UC3 Urban Logistics in Madrid
Use case 3 (UC3) Madrid investigates and proposes last-mile delivery solutions based on the integration of urban distribution of goods with existing on-demand passenger transport services. The demand for the delivery of goods in cities has increased over the last decade. The adoption of e-commerce, fuelled by the COVID-19 crisis, is responsible for this change and in particular for the traffic generated by last mile delivery. The use case will propose and simulate different passenger and goods coordination strategies that reduce traffic related to last mile parcel delivery, taking advantage of the synergies with on-demand passenger transport services. This will be done by using on-demand transport services and demand data to identify time slots where on-demand services have low demand for specific routes that can be used by logistics operators for the delivery of certain types of goods that are compatible with passenger transport.
